"WASTE" PATCHWORK
Domenico Vanore, aka DomDom, is a self-taught artist from Caserta. He uses waste materials to create his works, covers of famous albums, works of renowned artists (see the interpretations of Franco Fontana's shots or paintings by Amedeo Modigliani) or simple visions, which his mind elaborates and his hands force onto a canvas, or onto a wooden board, in response to the need to create. His work tools are not brushes, pencils and inks, but cutters, scissors and glue, which he uses expertly to build images with different levels of interpretation. At first glance, Vanore's works seem like classic paintings, but when you get closer (or enlarge the image) you understand that those colors are not paint but fabric, many small pieces of fabrics of different colors and materials, which the artist selects, cuts out and places side by side, one after the other, to form complex images. As you get closer you discover a world. Each work is the culmination of a creative process that begins with an image, thought or seen, and that ends with what the author believes to be a point of balance, between what was meant to be and what is.
